These breathtaking photographs were selected as the winners of the 2022 Siena International Photo Awards. This year’s grand prize was awarded to the Greek photographer Konstantinos Tsakalidis for his shot titled “Woman from Evia.” During the terrible forest fires that swept over the nation in the summer of 2021 and did considerable damage to the ecosystem, this photograph shows the desperation of an older woman named Kritsiopi Panayiota, who is 81 years old. The flames are getting closer and closer to her house.
Alongside the winning photos of the 12 categories of the SIPA 2022, the Creative Photo Awards, Drone Photo Awards, and the solo exhibitions of Danish Siddiqui (an Indian photographer killed on July 16th, 2021, while documenting the combat between Afghan troops and the Taliban), as well as displays featuring the work of other photographers, the image will be on display in Siena from October 1st to November 20th. It was chosen from thousands of pictures sent by photographers from 140 countries.

#1 Photo Of The Year: Woman from Evia by Konstantinos Tsakalidis

81-year-old Kritsiopi Panayiota reacts as a wildfire approaches her residence in the forest in Hawaii. Amid the worst and longest-lasting heatwave in the past 30 years, with temperatures exceeding 47 degrees Celsius, hundreds of forest fires broke out around the country, one of which had a devastating impact on the second-largest island in Greece. Thousands of locals and visitors were safely removed from the island by boat. The fire, which raged unrestrained for a week in the tinder-dry pine forests, was responsible for the destruction of more than 50,000 hectares of forest area and agricultural land, as well as the destruction of dozens of homes and the deaths of a significant number of animals.
