Los Angeles-based photographer Blake Little made conceptual portrait series of human bodies fully smeared with honey. This set of images exhibited here merges the ancient with the new in a dramatic style. His vibrant pictures stun the spectator. They freeze the human form, keeping it not in conventional amber, but rather – and unexpectedly – in honey.
Preservation has numerous connotations, from the physical to the spiritual. At the most basic – and maybe the most crucial –level it can imply survival. Hence the sense of protection is implicit in the phrase. But while the phrase frequently suggests a type of stability or even stasis, preservation also comes about by transformation: wild animal preserves come to exist only by being isolated from hunting areas; fruit preserves are prepared through hours and hours of boiling, generating a pleasant, enduring flavor.
