Even though no one expects a barn owl to be compassionate, this photographer got two owls having a really loving moment on video.

Two owls were photographed by a photographer. Owls are considered to be solitary birds, so seeing two owls at the same time, much alone a couple of these birds of prayer kissing is quite rare. A lucky photographer from the United Kingdom recently witnessed such an exceptionally unusual event. Leslie Arnott managed to capture a few frames of a wonderfully beautiful encounter between two barn owls in Staffordshire, UK.

“The settings were rather difficult in the dark forest, and the two soared for a while before enjoying their wonderful moment,” the photographer explained. “They began touching heads and were pretty amorous.” Then there was the moment when they appeared to kiss.’ They ‘kissed’ twice…a sight I had never seen before or since.”

According to the photographer, the two gorgeous birds spent around two or three minutes on a tree branch before taking flight. And all the while they were so in love with one other.

What’s more intriguing is that the two birds are sisters rather than partners. Leslie is certain that the harmless kiss they exchanged will not be explained anytime soon. “[The two owls] are really friendly and work well together, but they are not a breeding pair,” she explained. “They are, in fact, sisters.”
